Pitch Call for Current Assignments
Plus a quick recap of Pitch Evolution and an article that came from it
Happy hump day!
I spent a fabulous week in Portland, Maine, last week (where I went hiking nearly every day), and flew back in time to catch one of Jimmy Kimmel’s live tapings in Brooklyn. I was one of 185,000 people who applied for tickets and you can see above how happy I was to spend 3 hours waiting in line outside to get in. :)
I started the week off with a Sunday morning root canal retreat and now I’m wrapping up some work before my 9-year-old niece comes to visit me tomorrow. I CAN’T WAIT!
Since I’ll be OOO doing kid stuff with her in NYC, I wanted to send a quick pitch call before logging off.

Pitch Evolution, live pitching, and Yahoo
Two weeks ago, I held my first Pitch Evolution. We had some great discussions and talked about a wide range of pitches. I heard from quite a few of you who couldn’t make that particular time but expressed interest in future ones.
During the call, I gave a sneak peek at a pitch I was working on that I planned to send around to a few editors. However, I received a great deal of valuable input on the call and from RSVPs who ultimately couldn't attend but to whom I sent a recap.
I wound up having enough info to write the piece for Yahoo, so there was no need to put out a wide pitch call and go back and forth trying to land the story with another outlet. It was time-sensitive, so I wound up writing it the next day and updating it over the next week. Here it is:
These incredible hotels are offering deals during peak fall foliage season
Why do I mention this?
To show the value of live pitching
To explain the thought process writers go through when putting out pitch calls to publicists and sending pitches to editors
To showcase the flexibility of the Yahoo platform, which I am relying on increasingly as more and more publications cut freelance budgets.
Unfortunately, I am no longer accepting hotel inclusions for that piece, so please do not pitch me.
More on Yahoo
Actually, I don’t have time to write more about Yahoo since I need to get to my weekly shift at the food co-op, but I have a lot more to say on this topic so stay tuned.
CURRENT ASSIGNMENTS
I’ve been writing a lot for Yahoo this year, and I have a current sponsored article I’m working on that I believe may be a good fit for some of you.
1. Yahoo: Large-sized bras
I’m working on a piece about bras for large breasts. While “large” is relative, please note that if your brand only goes up to a DDD, I can’t include it.
To pitch me:
Requirements: Must offer sizes well above a DDD. Can be regular or sports bra
Subject line: Bras + Insert Your Brand Here
Email: cassandra@escapingny.com
Pitch by: EOD Tuesday, October 14
2. Cookbook stores
I’m working on an article about the best cookbook stores in the country and I’m open to any and all pitches on stores that specialize in cookbooks. Please note that I’m not considering bookstores that simply have large cookbook sections. They have to focus exclusively on cooking, food, and cuisine.
To pitch me:
Requirements: Must be cookbook-focused
Subject line: Cookbooks + Insert Your Brand Here
Email: cassandra@escapingny.com
Pitch by: EOD Thursday, October 16
3. Yahoo: Self-care products for cold & flu season
I’m working on a sponsored wellness-focused roundup with PressHook on Yahoo Creators about self-care products for cold and flu season.
Potential products may include, but are not limited to:
Immunity-boosting products
Herbal teas
Nasal sprays
Menthol rubs
Pain relievers
Cough calmers
Humidifiers
Example of a previous Yahoo product guide in a similar format:
The 10 best summer skincare products for glowing skin
Rate: $350 per brand
To pitch me:
Requirements: See above, and please note that this is a SPONSORED piece, so please only pitch if your brand has a budget.
Subject line: Yahoo Flu + Insert Your Brand Here
Email: cassandra@escapingny.com
Pitch by: EOD Tuesday, October 14
