Sources Needed for Insider, Forbes, AARP & More
Plus, registration is open for Thursday's Live Q&A with me
Hi everyone,
Greetings from NYC, where last night brought the first appreciable (over-an-inch-of) snow in over 700 days. WHOA! It’s enough to get roads and sidewalks sloppy and slushy but not enough to do anything fun in. It’s also shocking because it was nearly 50 degrees this weekend, when I snapped the pic above of flower blossoms at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Roses and blossoms in January? Again, WHOA!
I have a gang of new assignments (AARP, Insider, Forbes, Hilton), and I’m hosting my first ever Live Q&A this Thursday. Scroll to the bottom to register and to send me a question you’d like to discuss on the call.
Have a great week!
Cassandra
CURRENT EDITORIAL NEEDS
1. Hilton Hotels - Savannah Itinerary
I’ll be writing a four-day couple’s guide to Savannah, Georgia for Hilton Hotels, similar to this San Francisco guide. I’d like to connect with someone from their tourism board or from Georgia’s tourism board (or their publicists).
Requirements: Must be Savannah expert
Subject line: Hilton Savannah
Email: cassandra@escapingny.com
Pitch by: EOD, Monday, January 29th
2. Forbes: Best Manual Treadmills
I’m writing a new piece about the best manual treadmills. Note that “manual” means there’s no motor - the treadmill is powered by the user’s stride. The piece will be similar in layout/format to this piece I wrote on the Best Treadmills for Runners.
Note that the treadmills MUST offer affiliate commission and I also need specs included in the pitch. I’m including a sample formatting here of what I’m looking for:
Dimensions: 64 x 31 x 63 inches | Max user capacity: 400 pounds | Speed range: Self-powered / Max of 15mph | Incline range: 2.5 inches from center of curve to front/rear ends
Requirements: Must offfer affiliate commission (Skimlinks, Avantlink, Amazon)
Subject line: Manual Treadmills + Product Name
Email: cassandra@escapingny.com
Pitch by: EOD, Monday, February 12th
3. INSIDER: Coolest Airports in the United States
I’m writing a new piece on the coolest airports in the US and I want to highlight some smaller, lesser-known airports that don't usually get a lot of attention. The pitch started out about my hometown airport, Milwaukee, which has had a huge second-hand bookstore since the 1970s. I'm looking for quirky, fun things like that, not just "JFK because it has the best lounges and fancy restaurants" even if that's true. I’d also consider larger airports if they have something truly unique like an amazing outdoor area that passengers can access after security so they can enjoy fresh air; or they have a big indoor dog park or a brand new accessibility corner with significant ammenties.
Also, note that Insider informed me they may only be able to include the airport if they can find a photo of the airport on Getty or Shutterstock. Most airports should be on there but if you propose a small airport, you may need to provide images.
Requirements: Airport must be truly unique in some way and pics must be available.
Subject line: Best Airports + Airport Name
Email: cassandra@escapingny.com
Pitch by: EOD, Tuesday, February 6th
4. AARP: Caregiving From Afar
I’m writing a new piece on how to provide care for a loved one (parent, grandparent, older adult) from a distance, or how to support those in your life who are the caregivers. The piece will include a lot of my experience caring for my mom (in Milwaukee) when I’m in New York City, including ways I’ve helped my sister with chores and tasks not related to our mom so that it just gives her more free time in general.
I’d LOVE to get more examples of others providing care and support from afar and I’m also seeking an expert to weigh in, such as a psychologist, who can speak to the stress of caregiving and the benefit that support from others offers.
Requirements: None other than what’s above
Subject line: AARP Caregiving + Expert Name
Email: cassandra@escapingny.com
Pitch by: EOD, Friday, January 26th
