Last week, I sent out a pitch call for four Forbes product features that I was writing for three of their commerce sections: travel, fashion/style, and gear. I also write for their home section and all four of these sections have different editors, different rules, different goals, different angles, and, most importantly, different readers and target consumers. To help you understand the difference between these sections so you can better target your pitches to me and other writers, I created this post on Differentiating the Four Forbes Commerce Sections I Write For. It was a very popular post and I received a ton of appreciative emails from publicists who told me it really helped them understand how to target their pitches better.
Next week, I’m going to start an in-depth series on how to send the perfect pitch, focused on product roundups not just for Forbes but also for Reader’s Digest, The Daily Beast, and other outlets with commerce sections. Today, I’m going to start off with a list of the top reasons I did NOT accept pitches last week. I received hundreds of pitches and some were good, some were great, and some were awful. I want to help you make your good pitches great and help you never send an awful pitch again.
