Hi everyone,
Hello from beautiful Brooklyn, New York, where I’m slowly getting over my jet-lag and readjusting to 90-degree weather. After a month in Scotland, where the last three weeks were mostly 60 degrees and rainy, the weather has been a bit of a shock. Speaking of Scotland, the pic above is from Day 3 of my 7-day, 96-mile hike. Day 2 included 16 miles of steep hiking through constant rain so I was grateful that Day 3 (which was also extremely challenging) offered brief bits of sunshine.
Now, I know most of my special “paid subscribers only” posts have been about Forbes. I promise, I’ll expand out a bit very soon and I already started writing a newsletter about the Wall Street Journal (who I’m currently writing an outdoorsy guide for now!) However, since I’m currently seeking product recommendations for four different Forbes articles across three different sections, it seemed like a good opportunity to write a newsletter about what distinguishes these sections from each other and how to target your product pitches accordingly.
Oh, and if you didn’t know that I am currently seeking product recommendations for four different Forbes articles, check out the From Puffins to Pavement newsletter I sent out Monday. You still have a few days to send me pitches for a few of them.
Have a great weekend and I hope you’ll be celebrating a short Summer Friday with me tomorrow. :)
Cassandra
P.S. If interested in reading recent articles I’ve written for Forbes, here’s my Forbes Contributor Page.
FOUR DISTINCT VERTICALS
The Forbes commerce section is called Vetted and it has six sections:
Gear
Style (Fashion)
Travel
Home & Kitchen
Health & Wellness
Tech & Electronics
I write for the first four sections. I’ve been writing for the Gear section for two years, for the Home & Kitchen section for nearly as long, and I began writing for travel and fashion just this summer. Technically, I’ve also written for Health & Wellness, which has/had quite a bit of overlap with Gear, but it’s been rare so I’m not including them here.
Because I write for so many sections and because each of these sections has a different angle, I’m going to break down here what distinguishes each section, the sort of products and features they prioritize, and what you should know before pitching products to me or to anyone else writing for these sections.
