Hi everyone,
Hello from Milwaukee, Wisconsin! As I mentioned last week, my mom had a very severe episode (likely related to her advanced Parkinson’s but doctors aren’t sure) and she was hospitalized for a week. She was transferred to rehab this week and is doing much better. They can’t seem to understand that she is vegetarian and requires her food to be cut up very small so I’ve been cooking for her and spending most afternoons/evenings there helping her eat. The pic above is my niece pretending to be “Titi Cass” at the rehab center by wearing my signature trucker hat and hip pouch.
As a promised follow up to my How to Send the Perfect Pitch - Part 1 series, today, I’m sending an example of the perfect pitch, which I received a few days ago. Next week, for Part 3, I’ll continue with a detailed list of what to do (and not do) but I need a bit more time to work on it.
I just confirmed three more articles for the Forbes Gear section so I’ll be sending out product requests early next week, so….it wouldn’t be a bad time to read up how to send the Perfect Pitch now would it? :)
Also, please allow me a moment to brag about my debut in TimeOut Travel, which I’m really excited about. I wrote the #7 entry about the Scottish Highlands (and the amazing 96-mile hike I did there!) for TimeOut’s new 30 Most Beautiful Places in the World. What a great way to go into the weekend!
Have a good weekend!
Cassandra

How to Send the Perfect Pitch - Part 2
Last week, I requested product pitches for a Forbes piece on “The Best Sports Bras for Large Breasts.” As usual, I was very specific with what I wanted - the product had to be a sports bra, it had to be for larger sizes (above a 40D), it had to be in stock, it had to have an affiliate connection, and I included sample specs I was seeking. Most pitches were pretty good but I did find myself going back and forth with several publicists who sent me pitches about bras that weren’t sports bras, that weren’t available in larger sizes, and that didn’t have an affiliate program set up yet. Why are you wasting all of our time?
Though I do have some trusted go-to publicists who I’ve worked with for years and who I know I can count on for quick, solid information, I’m always open to working with new publicists. Basically, I’m open to working with anyone that sends me what I need, when I need it.
The pitch below comes from Sara Jordan Jacobson at Marbaloo Marketing. She had never heard of me and, in fact, wasn’t even subscribed to my newsletter. One of her colleagues forwarded her my newsletter (which she then subscribed to - thanks!) and she decided to pitch me. Her pitch was SPOT ON so I got permission from her to include it below. It is an excellent example of how to send a great pitch, particularly if we’ve never worked together before and I know nothing about you or the products you represent.
I’m including her full pitch below, along with some commentary from me on why I loved it so much.
